What is blog hosting?
A blog hosting provider is like the landlord for your blog. You hosting provider gives your blog a virtual space to “live” on.
Also, they offer you to get a domain name for your blog.
Your domain name is simply the web address for your blog website that people type into their web browser. For instance InternetCobra.com, and BloggingPlay.com.

Why you should start blogging?
But do you know the definition of a blog?
A blog is a website or part of a site that contains regularly-updated content about one or multiple topics. The term is short for “weblog,” which means to log information on a website.
The content on a blog usually comes in the form of articles on individual web pages called blog posts. The article you’re reading right now is the best example.
On the blog’s homepage, you may find a collection of these blog posts presented in reverse chronological order – from the latest to the oldest. InternetCobra.com's homepage is a good example of this.
Due to the following reasons, you should start a blog:
- to make money online
- to improve writing skill
- get popularity or fame and name
- to share experience about specific topic
- to build online business
- passive income
- financial freedom
- be your own boss
- time freedom
- Personal branding
- live digital nomad lifestyle
There are lots of benefits of starting a blog!
But in this article, I will tell you how to install WordPress with GreenGeeks Hosting.
How does blog hosting work exactly?
When you sign up with a blog hosting provider, they let you set up your blog on their web server, so that people from all over the world can access and visit your website 24/7.
“Webserver” is simply a fancy name for a computer that can make your website accessible for everyone.
In straight words: you need only 3 things to start a profitable blog:
- Web Hosting Plan: This is the web server where all of your blog files and data are stored.
- Domain Name: What people type into their browser to find and visit your blog.
- Blogging Platform: WordPress - the software you will use to build and manage your blog.

You can see 3 plans of GreenGeeks Web Hosting!
Most bloggers start with the Pro plan because it comes with an unlimited website feature. Two years later, I am still running my blog on a pro plan. You can always upgrade in the future as your blog/website grows.
You can opt for a ” Lite ” plan if you are not expecting too much traffic or you do not have enough money to buy a pro plan.
You can upgrade to any plan later according to your needs.
I know you're wondering about which plan you should choose?
But don't worry, now I'm going to tell you which plan is best for you. And you have to read this article till the end if you want a big offer on GreenGeeks hosting.
There are two conditions when you want to buy web hosting for blogging. Either you're new in blogging or you're an experienced blogger in blogging.
So now you decide what you're? newbie blogger or experienced blogger!
If you're new or a beginner in the blogging industry, so Lite plan is best for you. Because at the starting of blogging, you should have to focus on only one blog.
This is the reason you should have to go for Lite Plan. And click here to get a big discount on your first GreenGeeks's Hosting purchase.
Well, if you're an experienced blogger at this time you should have to focus on starting multiple blogs or websites.
Because you can't earn a lot of money with one website, and most of the famous bloggers making money with more than one website.
That's why you have to go for the Pro plan in which you get an unlimited website feature with a free domain.
Also, I recommend choosing “Pro Plan”. It provides domain privacy for free, you can host unlimited websites, 2x performance and it performs well overall.
So, you decided to go with the Pro plan and now click on the green 'Get Started' button.
Step #3: Now Setup Your Domain Name
Once you select the plan, you will be brought to a new page where you will set-up your new domain (or if you have already a domain name then you can use that domain name).
All GreenGeeks plans include a free domain. Be mindful of the domain you pick for your blog, as it will be a representation of who you are, and what you want to tell the world with your blog.
Click ‘next’ to find out if the domain is available or not. If it is: available! You're brought to the billing page. Where you have to fill up your information, and in the last of this, you have to put your payment information.
After this process, your account will be created on GreenGeeks hosting.
Step #4: Purchase Hosting For Your Blog
First, enter your account information, something you would do with any other purchase on the web.
After you have entered all of your account information, you will be prompted to choose your package information. In this step, keep in mind the following things:
Web Hosting Plan: Choose the Lite plan (cheapest) to start off. I recommend you lock in 24 months of hosting at the lowest price. You will receive your free domain (an $11.99 worth).
Domain Privacy Protection: keep this box checked. If you don’t want your account information to become public.
To keep costs down, do not check all the other offers. Eventually, as your blog/website grows, you can decide if you want to add those services.
Choose a server location that is nearest to your audience. So that your audience can open your website quickly!
Now you have to enter your billing/payment information and complete your purchase.
Make sure you have Visa or MasterCard for GreenGeeks Hosting's payment.
In the above screenshot, you can see GreenGeeks offer a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee that's why you can use GreenGeeks Hosting for up to 30 days free!
As for my need, I purchased a Pro Web Hosting plan, and I saved my hard-earned 145 dollars or ten thousand rupees in a one-year hosting!
Now you have to pay for hosting, enter your card details accurately.
After that, you have to click on the green Create Account button. It will take a few minutes on the GreenGeeks to proceed with the details.
Wait a few minutes, then check your email for important details related to your account.
Congratulations! You have successfully purchased hosting for yourself. Now you are one step away to install WordPress.
Now it’s time to set up your WordPress blog which means now I'm going to install WordPress.
Step #5: How To Install WordPress From cPanel
First of all, you have to go to your GreenGeeks account, then you can see the same interface as the below screenshot after login to your account.
You can use cPanel for all kinds of things like view website visitor statistics, setting up and managing email addresses, and a bunch of other things.
But for now, I will focus on installing WordPress. For this, I'm going to use a free software called Softaculous.
You can either type Softaculous in the search bar at the top or you can scroll down to the Software section.
After cPanel login you will see, following types of interface,
Then click on Softaculous Apps Installer to install WordPress on your domain, click on the WordPress icon then you will be brought to new dashboard which looks like the below screenshot.
Click on the WordPress icon to install WordPress on your website. You will then need to fill in some login details about your website.
Now, this may look a bit confusing, but it is very simple to set up. Most of these options are already filled in for you.
So all you need to do is to scroll down the Admin Account section.
You will see your Admin username is already set to Admin. You can change this if anytime you want, or leave it as it is. But you have to change it now!
Next, you will need to enter a password and an email address for the account.
Make sure you write down the username and password you chose and you should write this password in the diary for privacy or remember.
Then scroll down to the bottom and enter your email address again.
So now just click on Install.
After a few seconds, you will see a congratulatory message, which means WordPress has been installed and your website is ready to be customized.
Now I just want to show you how to log into your website and how to get familiarized with the WordPress dashboard.
WordPress has a backend where you can log in and manage your websites as a site owner.
To get it, you need to go to your domain. Type https://yourdomian.com/wp-admin in the browser address bar. Or you can follow the links in the WordPress installation email you received in the previous step.
Enter your username and password,
You will now be logged into your WordPress Dashboard, its looks like below screenshot:
There are lots of options to explore in WordPress, go all in.
I covered the WordPress dashboard tutorial for you on my youtube channel. You can see on the BloggingPlay Digital YouTube channel.

Let's move on the next step,
After installing WordPress, you have to choose lucrative theme for your WordPress blog which will attract readers.
Step #6: Install A SEO-Friendly Theme, and Plugins
I want to say, your theme is the first impression on your audience. You don’t have to be a web designer to change the way your site is viewed with WordPress.
By the way, What is a theme?
A theme is a piece of software that determines the way your blog looks. It decides the design and layout of the different pages on your blog.
There are over 3,000 free themes that you can use with WordPress, and then there are more paid themes options and customizations you want to add further.
But I don't advise you to go with those free themes because these free themes are easy to hack, and by this, you will lose all your website’s data.
You all know In blogging, blog design matters because if you don’t have a good looking design, you’re losing a lot of traffic and viewers.
A good looking theme and blog design will build your brand and faith among your readers.
If you want to become a pro blogger then it also takes time and also requires the investment of money and time. You all know that blogging is a business and business is done from a business mindset.
Let’s talk about which themes you have to use in your blog.
I highly recommend using the GeneratePress Premium theme because it has lots of amazing features that will help you to make your blog extraordinary.
GeneratePress is the lightest theme (under 50KB) which will make your website loading speed fast. And, we all know that site loading speeds play a crucial role in google’s ranking and many pro bloggers are using it because it’s easy to design.
Apart from this, you have following 5 best themes you can use:
- GeneratePress Theme

- The theme should be lightweight and SEO-friendly.
- That theme must support the latest version of WordPress.
- Make sure, your theme is responsive for mobile or not.
- Technical support of the theme matters a lot.
- Make sure you're getting support and unlimited updates!
